Overview

The position of Lab Engineer is responsible for the development of training environments (including online virtual labs, local and remote computer labs, operating system images, and the allocation of computing resources) required to support Focal Point Academy and client courses.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, documents and implements lab delivery solutions, in concert with course leads, organizational leadership, and fellow TechOps team members.
  • Identifies resource gaps for course delivery and collaborates with operational and educational leadership to identify solutions, mitigating the risk of interruptions to training.
  • Assigns and verifies the right resources for Focal Point Academy courses to be delivered worldwide based on availability and location of training.
  • Assists with all technical issues and needs for instructors to enhance the learning experience and ensure successful training.
  • Assists instructors by creating operating system images or labs, and obtaining software and licenses for the development or update of courses.
  • Maintains and upgrades server infrastructure to support endpoint imaging and virtualization
  • Performs hardware repair of small form factor PC’s, laptops and other computing devices (hard drive replacement, RAM upgrades, screen replacements, etc.).
  • Maintains hardware inventory and performs asset control.
  • Helps define and implement “best practice” procedures
  • Conducts hands-on preparation of travel sets for offsite training.
  • Identifies and implement improvements to processes to increase productivity and quality of deliverables
  • Serves as a coach and mentor for junior members of the TechOps team
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience with learning management systems, such as Learn On Demand or with online labs a plus
  • 5-7 years of experience in a technical support or network administrator role
  • Experience with VDI environments or server and client virtualization technologies
  • Project management experience

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (or similar field), or four years of demonstrated technical experience.

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Advanced experience using scripting to automate administrative tasks.
  • Intermediate experience with VMware Workstation administration.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with VMware ESXi server administration.
  • Creation and deployment of thin-client architectures.
  • Knowledge and experience with Ghost or other imaging software.
  • Previous experience with Business Continuity planning including: backup, restoration and offsite storage
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Windows and Linux command line interfaces.
  • Basic experience in network administration and troubleshooting including configuration of network devices such as routers, switches and wireless access points.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
